Sunday was Adam's birthday. It was a pretty leisurely day, which was nice. I woke up with Carter to let Adam sleep in. I decided I wanted to make Adam a strawberry birthday cake that he likes so I started it first thing in the morning. We had brunch at Z-Tejas and took a nap when Carter napped. After the nap I starting on the icing. As I was making it I noticed it wasn't the right consistency. Reluctantly I began icing the cake. As I was slopping this weird pink runny goo all I could think was that it looked like strawberry shortcake threw up on it. Then I started thinking how weird it was that I was making Adam and pink cake. Then I tried the icing and it. was. terrible. Adam was a trooper and tried the cake. It was pretty bad and we both knew it was going to go straight into the trash can. It's the thought that counts, right?!?! As we were choking down the pink cake I asked, "Adam, do you even LIKE strawberry cake?". The answer was no. Sigh. Then it occurred to me that I have made this awful cake not once, not twice, but THREE times on his birthday. Next year, will someone please remind me NOT to make this cake ever, ever again?!?!

Despite the cake, I think Adam had a pretty good day. Happy birthday, Adam!!! Oh, and I PROMISE, not weird pink cake ever again.

I HAD A FANTASTIC DAY! thanks for everything and putting up with my "now that's the icing on the cake!" jokes! hah. AdamA
I like strawberry cake, but maybe not that strawberry cake. What did you DO to it?! My secret is to use the mix cake and frosting from the can. ;-)
Happy birthday, Mr. Anderson!
The cake part was good. It was from a box only I added mashed strawberries to it. The icing was so bad. All it had was powdered sugar, butter and smashed strawberries but it was SO sugary and SO runny. I feel like the person who sent it to me left out an ingredient. Never ever again. A butter cream icing would have been much better. Oh well.
What a hoot! It's the thought that counts, remember. I cook like Maggie.
:-)
I hope it was a good birthday for Adam. What happened to the candles - lack thereof? Hmmmmm - Still a teen?
